Adidas – Break Free

This ad has gone bonkers on the internet in the last few days…it’s so incredible that we just had to share. German student Eugen Merher created this Adidas ad for a project and although he tried to contact Adidas to see if they were interested, he heard no reply. So, he posted it directly to the internet and all 7 million people who have viewed it shed a tear.

The ad shows a retired elderly former marathon runner deeply saddened by his monotonous life in a nursing home until he discovers an old pair of Adidas running shoes.  It reignites his incredible love for running but the workers at his home wouldn’t allow him to leave the premises to go for a run…until his friends in the home took action!

It’s sad, beautiful and inspiring all at once. As depressing as this sounds, I often think about the process of ageing and how sad and hard it must be to realise you can’t do the things you used to be able to do. How you have to rely on everyone for everything…when you were once so capable and strong. This man depicts the sadness of growing old…but he also depicts the greatness of living your passion at any age.

This is just a shot in the dark but I think Adidas might be a tad spewin they let this one fall through the cracks. 7 million views later and HOLY COW – this ad is genius.

Check it out…Well done Eugen!
